Hello, I am Mohammad, a fresh May 2021 graduate of Columbia University, where I recently earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, as a student at the Department of Computer Science, and a C Prescott Davis Scholar at the Columbia Undergraduate Scholars Program (CUSP).
I came to Columbia as an international undergraduate student after completing secondary education in my home country of Bangladesh, where I received the Country’s Highest Academic Achiever Award for being the highest scorer in International Advanced Level (IAL) examinations from Bangladesh in the 2013-2014 academic year.
Over the period of my secondary education, I have received numerous divisional awards and 11 national awards in various academic olympiads in Bangladesh, as well as 3 international awards, including 2 in international olympiads.
I have also previously worked as the Chief Academic Coordinator at the Bangladesh Physics Olympiad (BdPhO), after successfully representing Bangladesh internationally in the 15th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) held in Singapore as well as in the 45th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) held in Kazakhstan, both in 2014, achieving the APhO’s President Book Prize and the Honorable Mention awards respectively for my nation, on the highest international platform for physics.
Perhaps my most significant hobbies are singing, songwriting and composing music on acoustic guitar. This is a Bengali song, called Osru Bheja Sritite (In Tear-soaked Memories), that I composed as a tribute to the victims in the wake of the horrifying Holey Artisan Tragedy, which occurred in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on July 1, 2016.
Moreover, I am a recent chess enthusiast and a First Category player at the United States Chess Federation (USCF), with a current playing strength just below that of a Candidate Master. I can also be found on chess.com here.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I am a software engineering aspirant, with a focus towards database systems, backend technologies and artificial intelligence. Presently, I work online as an independent contractor (freelance software engineer) on Upwork, developing web and desktop applications for clients. My relevant work experience further includes a 2019 summer internship at WYFT, which I fully detail here.
